Therapy for children and families in Maryland and Washington, DC
I work with younger children in the context of family treatment. Parents or caregivers take part in the work from the start, learning what is going on for their child and how to respond to it at home, and sessions are planned around the family as a whole. Children are not seen on their own while parents wait elsewhere. Parents are the most important people in a young child's daily life, so they are part of how treatment happens.
Concerns I work with in children include anxiety, OCD, the effects of trauma, adjustment to major changes such as a move, and the particular needs of adoptive and blended families.
My clinical training was at Kennedy Krieger Institute. I trained in the Center for Child and Family Traumatic Stress and in the Department of Developmental Behavioral Health, where I also served as Head of Externship Training.
Working with children and families is close to my heart. Helping a child early on can have a lasting effect on the course of their life, and on the family around them. For adolescents ages 13 and up, see therapy for teens.
